Hazardous Delhi roads and incessant failure to combat the monster!

Loss of life owing to improper road management has become a common issue in metro cities of India. Everyday one comes across the statistics of lives gobbled up by the accident monster. Surprisingly the news appears redundant and even fails to shock us out of our complacency!

It is only when tragedy strikes our home turf; the hearth of our homes does stark reality sink in. Just today one of my batch mates brother succumbed to his injuries in a road accident. The news came as a bolt from the sky. It shook each of us in the newly formed batch of masters in journalism. The incident caused me to reflect on certain issues which are as follows.

Firstly, the glaring need to cultivate sensitivity towards the implications of so many lives being lost on the Delhi roads. To understand the gravity of the situation and empathize with the bereaved families instead of discarding their story as one among the countless others that make headlines.

Secondly, the fact that such accidents, largely occur due to our negligence of basic traffic rules and regulations. Such as maintaining speed, stopping at red lights, wearing helmets and much more. Can't most accidents be prevented? Yes they can if only, we stop to reflect that lives are more important than our work, our home our dreams. In the hustle of the rat paced life, often human lives find themselves bartered for material priorities. Particularly as the youth of the nation the burden to pave the way is ours. We are the 'Google' generation who tend to take things for granted. But let us remember the life of one of our own can never be regenerated. A generation can only exist if those divinely generated can survive! Stick to the rules and ensure everyone round you does too. 

Thirdly, not only knowledge about the issue but generating awareness is crucial to the tightening the noose round this life craving monster. Go out and do your part. Write, speak and discuss the measures which can be adopted else evolved to combat this issue. Because it is only together that these hazardous Delhi roads can be transformed from the nightmare they are, to a pleasant means of transport.
